WHAT TO EXPECT IN THERAPY (FAQ’S)


HOW LONG ARE SESSIONS?

Standard individual and conjoint (couples/family) therapy sessions are weekly and last between 45-50 minutes.  There are some circumstances where it might be beneficial to have extended session, and meet more/less than once a week.  If you believe that you will benefit from an extended session or an alternative session schedule, please feel free to discuss this with your therapist.

It is important to note that consistency is encouraged, especially early on in treatment as we are getting to know each other. However, we understand that life doesn’t always afford us that luxury and we are always willing to work with a client to meet their unique needs.

 

HOW LONG WILL I BE IN THERAPY?

This is the question that every clients wants to know and the very unsatisfying answer is we are not sure.  There are many factors that impact the length of treatment and so there isn’t a one size fits all answer to that questions.  Some clients might be able to work through and solve a problem in just a few sessions, while others will need several years to work through larger more complicated issues.  After the first few sessions, your therapist should be able to provide you with a better estimate on how longer treatment might take.  However, it is important to remember that you are in charge of the process and can stop, pause or resume treatment as needed.

 

WILL WE WORK WELL TOGETHER?

Maybe.  The truth is that your therapist will be the perfect fit for some clients and not a good fit at all for others.  The best way to discern if a therapist will be a good fit is to do a consultation session.  Therefore, Wired for Healing therapists offer a free 15 minute ‘Meet & Greet’ session to determine if they will be the right therapists to meet your needs.

 

WHAT IS YOUR FEE AND DO YOU TAKE INSURANCE?

Fee is determined by modality of therapy (individual, couples, family, EMDR), as well as the therapists individual level of licensure, experience and advanced training.

WHAT TYPE OF PAYMENTS DO YOU ACCEPT?

We currently accept Cash, Checks, and all major Credit Cards (AMEX, VISA, MASTERCARD and DISCOVER CARD).

Additionally, we can take payment through HSA/FSA accounts directly or provide you with a statement that can be submitted for reimbursement.

Venmo and Zelle cannot be use to pay for session, as they are not HIPAA compliant. However, they can be used to pay for other services (i.e., consultation, training, etc.).

 

WHAT IS YOUR CANCELLATION POLICY?

It is standard practice in therapy that a session must be cancel or reschedule at least 24 hours in advance. This is necessary because a time slot is held exclusively for you and therefore the agreed upon late cancellation or no-show fee will be charged if a session is not canceled or rescheduled with enough notice.

It is also important to note that insurance companies will not reimburse you for a missed session.  Therefore any claim submitted to your insurance company would be rejected and you would be held liable for the full late cancellation or no-show fee.

 

WHAT SHOULD I DO TO PREPARE FOR THE SESSION AND WHAT SHOULD I BRING WITH ME?

We utilize an Electronic Health Record (EHR) system and therefore this practice is completely paperless.  Prior to your first session, you will receive an email directing you to your ‘Client Portal’ where you will be able to complete all necessary paperwork at your own pace.

While we encourage you to complete the paperwork at you worn pace, please note that all paperwork would needed to be completed in full before your first session.

Therefore, the only thing you will need to bring with you is yourself and your story…we will be provide everything else.

 

HOW DO I ACCESS OUR TELEHEALTH SESSION?

If we will be doing a phone session, your therapist will simply call you at our scheduled session time at the number you provide.

Prior to your video session you will receive an email or text message with a link directing you to your session.  For security purposes the link changes every session, so you will receive a new link before every session and there is no need to save a link from a previous session.

We use ‘Simple Practice’ and if you will be logging into your video session via a computer you will just need to click the link.  However, if you will be using a tablet or phone to access our video sessions, you will first need to download the app “Telehealth” by Simple Practice prior to logging in.

If you will be doing an EMDR reprocessing session, you will receive a link to your individual EMDR meeting room directly from your therapist for remotEMDR. This link will be unique to you and you will use it for all reprocessing sessions.

For EMDR reprocessing session, it is encouraged to use either a desktop, laptop or tablet. While phone can be used, they are not encouraged as it can be difficult to complete the full rage of an eye movement on such a small device.
